The members of Luna Rumba come from widely different backgrounds. Sergio de Mario grew up on the streets of Mexico City and started playing guitar and singing at a young age. His music reflects the hardship of his early years and the joy that music can bring to lift people up. Cheko is the main composer and vocalist. He also plays rhythm guitar.
Geo is from Canada and lives on Vancouver Island but spends his winters in Mexico. He was a child prodigy on the violin and has over 40 years of music experience. He is a multi-instrumentalist and plays 5 string violin, flamenco guitar, electric guitar and mandolin.
Paolo and Silvia are seasoned musicians and have played in festivals in Cuba and Mexico. Paolo is from Italy and plays 6 string bass and Silvia is from Mexico City and plays Cajon, Tinacas, D'jambe and other small percussion instruments.
Chas Eller is an internationally-recognized keyboard player. His band, Kilimanjaro was on of the biggest jazz bands in the '80s. He has recorded with and played with many of the biggest names in the music industry. He is also a award-winning recording engineer and has received 3 INDIE awards for his recording production work, as well as being nominated for 2 Grammys.
Caros Mancilla is a accomplished drummer/percussionist from Puerto Vallarta.
Their music, too takes influences from around the world, blending cuban, spanish, mexican, and north american styles into one voice.
Although Geo has played music for most of his life, it was recently that he found his true music soul in the heartfelt melodies of Latin and Gypsy music. A big fan of Carlos Santana, Paco de Lucia, Jesse Cook, the Gipsy Kings, ando others, his search for the roots of Latin music led him to Mexico, where, in a meeting arranged by mutual friends, he met Sergio performing in a popular restaurant/nightclub in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Now, with the upcoming release of their first album as Luna Rumba, a wider audience will be able to enjoy the unique sound they have created together.
Luna Rumba will perform Mexico during the winter months of the high season and is available for festivals, concerts and special presentations at upscale restaurants and nightclubs.
